    Why is every video of a weta either slowed down or sped up? These things must be seriously slow......

      The top speed recorded is by Tom Kirkman 21.4 knots ruclips.net/video/qKxT-OF2WkA/видео.html. The vast majority of Wētā videos are in real time, I think this is the only video I edited which has slow motion. I also don't speed up any footage unless it's a time lapse. - Luis

In a perfect world id also want something that is not "wet" due to the short summers here but i don't think ill find a way around that with these small boats. @@WetaTrimarans

  • @alfreddaniels3817

    As a beach cat sailor we would first take the mainsheet system off the sail to prevent a new capsizing just after the boat comes up and to release the water on top of the main more quickly. Also a help-line attached to the mast makes it safer to lean backwards in order to push the lee-float under without the need to climb onto the slippery centreboard. This is particularly important for your own safety in big waves and you,ve got a rope to hold onto just in case you maybe slammed off by the motions of the boat. So that line we attach to the foot of the mast and take the other end to either side of the boat where we need it. Also when you sail with two people on board they need something to hold onto and not loose contact with the boat.

  • @alfreddaniels3817
    @alfreddaniels3817 Год назад

    Very very briljant in its simplicity. 👍👍 perhaps some time could be saved if you leave the halyards ( and maybe even the forestay with jib attached) on the topend of the mast with a sleeve around it. That’s basically what you do with the bowsprit as well is’nt it?

    I've had my Weta since 2010 and have been very happy with it. Had previous sailed different catamarans (Hobie 14 & 16 and Supercat 17) and while those are fun, I wanted to try something different. I hadn't had a down wind sail before, which really is nice. I also wanted a boat that I could sail solo and could fit into my garage for storing it out of the weather and sun. Another advantage is its narrow width (5 feet) when hauling on trailer to improve visibility when changing lanes (expands to 11.5 feet for sailing). The boat is very light weight, 220 lbs fully rigged, which helps it be fast on the water. Weta can kind of take off when it gets up on a plane.

    Another reference on a Weta videoclip to '25 knots'. Do you really sail single handed in 25 knots? I find that the boat is unmanageable in that windspeed in the presence of other boats (ie if you can't bear away or luff when you want to). Apart from anything else you cannot see anything in the spray. Or am I just getting old and weeny?

    • @WetaTrimarans
      @WetaTrimarans 3 года назад

      Several experienced sailors would have continued racing in those conditions and did not capsize however safety comes first, we did not have enough support boats to continue and it's not much fun bouncing around in a small start boat.

  • @georgemorris9971
    @georgemorris9971 3 года назад

    Ok.................in this video every time Roger tacks, the sail flaps as he goes through the wind and when established on the new close hauled course he has to pull the sheet in. Are we sure this is a self tacker? In the third video he seems to have refined his technique and the jib seems to come across without any attention to the sheets. Furthermore, the Ancient Mariner ( who must now be 73 or 74) seems to have got his bum onto the rail where he is at least partially out of the spray. This video seems to be a much better advert for the self tacker than the first one. Or am I missing something? George Morris (79)

    • @WetaTrimarans
      @WetaTrimarans 3 года назад

      Hi George, this video is with the prototype self tacker which was recessed into the deck. The other video "Destination Sail to Motuihe Island" was the first day of testing with the self tacker. The new self tacker performs flawlessly, almost all new boats ordered now request self tackers installed.

    • @georgemorris9971
      @georgemorris9971 3 года назад

      Yes, and I think some of the early manoeuvres were gybes rather than tacks - it's remarkable how difficult it is to tell which it is if you're not concentrating. Another thing - sprit mounted cameras always seem to exaggerate the depth of the jib. I am sure I sheet harder than that but perhaps I am wrong. I was out yesterday (ten degrees C!) and tried sailing with the jib a bit freeer and it did seem to be going faster - but then it would wouldn't it? If I hadn't just bought a new furling jib I would have a self tacker but you have no idea how much tax you have to pay for this sort of thing. The good news is that I have now perfected my mainsheet system - 11 years and God knows how much money! For some years now (since the last AC) I have been amusing myself by calling 'Three, two, one, DEPLOY! with a NZ accent at the windward mark. I am now adding ' Board up/down' at the appropriate stage in the manoeuvre! If you know of anyone that might be selling an hydraulic foil kit complete with flight control system, I'd make an offer. Ben probably has a couple but he's probably still in quarantine.
